Linen Press

Mahogany

This piece was in the client’s house for a week before I told him there was a secret compartment hidden inside. It was two weeks before I told him where the compartment was, and another week before I told him how to get into it. Now he shows everyone where it is, and how to get into it. Secret? Hmmm.

Drop leaf table

Mahogany, (Holly, Satinwood and Ebonised Maple inlays)

I enjoyed making this little table so much I soon made three others much like it. It’s very sweet.

Hutch

Black Cherry

It doesn’t get much simpler than this. This photo, in particular, is often a starting point with customers when discussing their own designs ideas.

“Oh, I like that” they say, “but could you…?”

“Why yes, I can.”

Tray-top Tea Table

Mahogany

This table is based on measurements taken at Boston’s Fine Arts Museum.

I built it as a final project while training at the North Bennett Street School, Boston, Massachusetts, 1981. The table is now in the collection of my mother.

Trestle Table

Curly Sugar Maple, harvested from our farm.

This table speaks for itself. Strong, yet light in spirit. The client long since took it home; I miss it.

Sue’s table

Spalted Sugar Maple, Walnut and Glass

Designed as the center of Sue’s “Great Room” overlooking the Connecticut River. The table’s base rises from the floor like roots rise: from earth, to trunk and to branches, an echo of the trees just beyond the windows. The two maple planks that form the table top, with their “live edges” never touching, meander the length of the table, like the river below.

Cameron’s bed

Cherry

When she was 7 years old Cameron drew a picture of this bed for me to build.
